JonesBlog

February 16th, 2010 David 1 comment

As I come out of my cocoon and become more active here at Dave’s Not Here, I think it’s important that I start to make note of some photographers who have regularly impressed me over the years.

One of those photographers is Bryan Jones of JonesBlog. Bryan is a Retinal Neurophysiology Scientist, but in his spare time he runs a fantastic and regularly updated photoblog. I don’t know what the rest of you might think, but I’m consistently impressed by his work.

Keep it up Bryan.

The Testing Continues

February 9th, 2010 David No comments

Extraneous posts just to verify that a desired functionality is working. Gotta love it. Now I’m verifying that Twitter and Facebook integration are working.

iPhone Publishing

Since the blog got a facelift, I thought I’d add the functionality of updates from my iPhone to my lifestyle. This post is simply a test of that functionality.

Just Switched to WordPress

February 9th, 2010 David No comments

This wasn’t the tough transition that I thought it would be. I’m still working on the “look” of the site. However, I’m getting the kinks worked out.

So Much for Project 2009

November 23rd, 2009 David 1 comment

As I pointed out in this post, the goal I set out to accomplish at the beginning of the year turned out to be a lot harder than it would at first seem.
General apathy, loads of work, lots to that didn’t involve being attached at the palm to my camera, etc…. has kept me from getting that so-called Project 2009 off of the ground. Truly that is a shame, as I hoped that might be a stepping stone on the path toward my selling some photos and actually learning something about photography (and whether or not I’m an artist) along the way.
Today I look back at a year in which I’ve shot a mere 2920 frames. At that count my Canon 5D Mk I is still practically new with only slightly less than 10,000 frames on the body. I really need to put it to better use.
I’ve talked with a graphic designer at work who is willing to help me with redesign of the site, so that’s something you can look forward to, and along with that redesign I hope that Project 2010 is better than Project 2009 has been.
I know that part of my problem with blogging is that I’ve been inclined to keep my opinionated self a lot quieter on the inter-tubes, and that has also led to a lack of posts, both here, and at File It Under. Hopefully I can change that in the coming months.
I understand that it’s in bad form to explain why you aren’t keeping up with blogging, so this post is dedicated to bad form.

Four Years

May 11th, 2009 David 6 comments

I have been looking at the trends on my site up to now, and I find it interesting that the blog took four years for me to build an interested audience and less than four months for almost all repeat traffic to stop coming around.
Not that this should in any way be relevant to today. This blog has been dead for well over a year, and I’m just now starting to make an effort to revive it.
Maybe it’s the narcissistic side of me, if I have one (I think many of my friends would wonder at me being that self-involved – maybe not), but I think it’s time for me to start back into talk on just about everything, and that’s what will be starting tomorrow.
In the meantime, since you’re gracious enough to be reading this post, I welcome you to Dave’s Not Here. Let’s see if you and I can make it better than before.

Blog: Abandoned in Place?

April 9th, 2009 David No comments

No, not really abandoned….just not as well maintained as it perhaps should be.
I’ll get back to it.
Right now I’m working on other things, most of which have little to do with updating the blog.

New Beginnings

January 2nd, 2009 David 4 comments

I recently posted to this site that I was going to be shutting down the site, and possibly doing something else with it. Several people who are very important to me have suggested that I keep the site going and in response I’ve decided to do just that.
It’s going to take some time to get things up and going again post-wise, but I am working on a content plan. I will probably start doing some minor mil-blogging again, continue with the photos, and put a greater degree of effort into my political rants once more.
I’ll also be making more of an effort to do my part over at File It Under, where I’ve been a horribly bad partner for the past 12 months.
Anyway, tonight begins my “Photo A Day for 2009″ objective, and I’ll be posting whatever I come up with, good or bad.
